Awkward Converstations
Awkward Conversations is a public-facing campaign developed in collaboration with Jodie Sweetin’s team and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, focused on encouraging dialogue around substance use and prevention. The campaign’s primary objective was to initiate conversations among parents and caregivers while increasing awareness of available educational resources. The central challenge was translating institutionally governed subject matter into a format suitable for social media. Platform restrictions limited the use of explicit language, while the involvement of a federal agency required adherence to formal guidelines. The work needed to remain compliant and credible, while still engaging an audience encountering the content in a fast-moving, informal context. Working from an established campaign framework, I developed social media assets and carousel content designed for Instagram. The visual system relied on gradient overlays and simplified graphic elements to create a consistent tone across posts. Within this structure, I focused on shaping how sensitive information was introduced, using direct, question-based headlines to prompt recognition and engagement without relying on explicit terminology.
Imagery and composition were selected to ground the subject matter in familiar environments, positioning the content within the everyday experiences of parents rather than abstract public health messaging. Color and visual treatment were calibrated to avoid both clinical detachment and alarmist severity, creating a tone that is accessible, empathetic, and direct. In addition to live campaign assets, I developed proposed advertising concepts to explore how the system could extend into broader outreach contexts. The result is a set of materials that translate institutional messaging into a more immediate and human-centered format, supporting the campaign’s goal of making difficult conversations more approachable while maintaining alignment with its educational and regulatory framework.

Awkward Converstations
For its first U.S. location, the Pilecki Institute needed an identity that could translate its rich European legacy into a clear, contemporary presence. The result is a system shaped by narrative, materiality, and accessible design, creating an environment where history becomes approachable, relevant, and alive for New York audiences.
